🧶 Crochet for Very Beginners – 4-Class Series
✨ A friendly, hands-on art class designed for absolute beginners.
Each class is 1.5 hours, giving you plenty of time to learn, practice, and ask questions.
By the end of the series, you’ll be able to follow simple crochet patterns online and create your own projects!
Designed for both kids and adults (separate classes)
- Friday: 6:30-8:00pm (Ages 8-15)
- Saturday: 7:00-8:30pm (Ages 16 & up)
Starts on September 12th, (No class on September 20th)
🧑 Taught by our talented local artist Elaine, who not only crafts and sells beautiful crochet goods at the French Market, but is also an experienced French teacher!

Class 1 (1.5 hrs): Tools & Getting Started
• Introduction to hooks & yarn – how to choose the right ones
• How to hold your hook and yarn comfortably
• Slip knot & chain stitch (ch)
• Understanding yarn tension
👉 Mini Practice: Make your very first practice chain!

Class 2 (1.5 hrs): Basic Stitches I
• Learn single crochet (sc) & double crochet (dc)
• Turning chains & starting new rows
• How to count stitches & keep edges neat
👉 Mini Project: Crochet a small square (like the start of a coaster).

Class 3 (1.5 hrs): Basic Stitches II & Small Project
• Learn half double crochet (hdc) & treble crochet (tr)
• Increase & decrease stitches
• Crocheting in the round (circle start)
👉 Mini Project: Make a round coaster, hair tie, or crochet flower.

Class 4 (1.5 hrs): Reading Patterns & First Completed Project
• Crochet abbreviations (ch, sc, dc, sl st, inc, dec, etc.)
• How to read written patterns & simple diagrams
• Put everything together into your first finished project
👉 Final Project Options: a granny square, or a beginner pouch / mini toy.

You’ll leave with the confidence to start your own projects and keep exploring the world of crochet.

Elaine is a passionate fiber artist, proud mom of three grown sons, and a devoted dog mom to two lovable rescue pups. Based in West Aurora, she works full-time as a school district administrator and brings her love for teaching into every crochet class.

- November 26–30 – Thanksgiving Break
- December 22–31 – Christmas Break
- January 1–5 – New Year Break
- March 30 – April 5 – Spring Break
Payment and Class Policy
- Monthly Payment: Tuition is auto-charged each month on the same date (based on your first payment).
- Cancel or Pause: If you’d like to pause or cancel, please let us know before the billing date, so the next month’s fee won’t be charged.
- Missing a Class: If your child can’t make it, please tell us before class starts. We’ll add the value as store credit, which you can use for future classes or purchases at our store.
- No-Show: If we don’t get notice in advance, the absence will count as a no-show and no credit will be given.
- Schedule: Classes run from September 2025 to June 2026.
